When Mrs. Strangeness is Married to Mr. Niceness: (Part Two)

The devil is in the adverbs. Everything done in excess is bad, irrespective of what that thing is. Excess is the place where control is suspended. It makes hitherto good bad, irrespective of what the good is. That is the issue with compulsive niceness. It is niceness in excess. It makes niceness smell.

The same thing goes for strangeness. I don't know if you realize it, but you are strange. In the right proportion, it is okay. This is the predicament Mr. Niceness and Mrs. Strangeness find themselves in.

I am going to tell you right off the back, that women are a strange set of beings. And, I love them just like that. Strange is good. Ever wonder about the word "lady," one with strangeness under control? No wonder the fairy tales - Cinderella, Beauty and the Beast, etc. - make sense.

Taken overboard, however, strangeness irritates. This is when the strangeness is on steroids. Then it is not healthy for anyone including the carrier. And, history is full of such examples.

Men were created to be nice. Note, that I did not say all men are nice. I simply said they were created to be nice. It is supposed to balance the imposing physique their hormones potentially plague them. Ever wonder why the word "gentle" was coined for a supposedly well-groomed male species?

Now, since humans are higher animals, their ability to think either helps or hampers. Trees grow to their full potential. Lower animals do also. But humans have a choice. They are not completely subservient to instincts. They can think. And, that is the challenge. It can either be a leverage or a disease.

The Saint.
