"Resolution Sixteen: Resolved, never to speak evil of anyone, so that it shall tend to his dishonor, more or less, upon no account except for some real good." ― Jonathan Edwards.
Now, this is another of those supposed tough ones. I am a Christian. My drive every day, hour, minute and second is to be like Jesus. I don't speak ill of anyone, at least not in a bid to bring such down. I say things just the way they are, and could be really painfully blunt.
Only this last Saturday, I was discussing with one of my "egbons" [elder friends] at work. She was referring to some mails I had put out to address some issues on one of our cooperative's projects. She felt I should have been softer. What she doesn't see are the offline attempts I had made.
Really I meant no harm, but seek the sanctity of the project, and guarantee of people's investment. I still get to sit down with these people and discuss, and joke. My issue is not with their person, but their actions. That is separate in my heart, but not everyone necessarily understands that.
For me, I play when it is time to play. I work when it is time to work. Work and play don't necessarily mix together. Yet I work in a very playful manner, for as long as the fundamentals are respected. I guess this is one of the ills of being a Sigma Male personality archetype.
Thanks, be to God for the journey of life He has brought me through. A time ago, this might have been a like bit more difficult. Maturity and self-re-creation have brought me to this new place where I intentionally love myself more. And, hence, I am able to give to others from the love I have for myself.
Scriptures:
“Let your speech always be with grace, seasoned with salt, that you may know how you ought to answer each one.” ― Colossians 4:6, NKJV.
“But I say to you that whoever is angry with his brother without a cause shall be in danger of the judgment. And whoever says to his brother, ‘Raca!’ shall be in danger of the council. But whoever says, ‘You fool!’ shall be in danger of hell fire.” ― Matthew 5:22, NKJV.
"If I speak with human eloquence and angelic ecstasy but don’t love, I’m nothing but the creaking of a rusty gate. If I speak God’s Word with power, revealing all his mysteries and making everything plain as day, and if I have faith that says to a mountain, “Jump,” and it jumps, but I don’t love, I’m nothing." ― 1 Corinthians 13:1-2, Message.
"Cultivate your own relationship with God, but don’t impose it on others. You’re fortunate if your behavior and your belief are coherent. But if you’re not sure, if you notice that you are acting in ways inconsistent with what you believe—some days trying to impose your opinions on others, other days just trying to please them—then you know that you’re out of line. If the way you live isn’t consistent with what you believe, then it’s wrong." ― Romans 14:23, Message.
Knowing what I know, and being one who is subdued to the constitution of the Kingdom, this is my resolve:
My Resolution:
"Resolved: Never act with hatred towards anyone. Never to seek the hurt of anyone, but rather to do everything out of love in thought, words and action. Love will always be my guiding principle.” ― St. Akin de Sage.
This is my resolve. So, help me, God.
