“Sooner or later we've all got to let go of our past.” ― Dan Brown, Deception Point.
The past is gone, but we still have to let it go. For as long as we don't it will control our present and emasculate our future. A friend of mine comes to mind. Still not married after twenty-five (25) years of a breakup. Really?

There are no marriages made in heaven. We get to make choices and leave with our choices here on earth. There are no marriages in heaven. It is an earthly contract good enough, only for this side of eternity.
That is no way to say you go marry some sorry forsaken fella. You are better than that. You are intelligent enough to know what is good for you. If you can make friends, you can marry. If you cannot make friends, then we gotta solve that problem first.
Marriage is the next level of friendship. If you cannot make friends with yourself, you cannot make friends with others. If you cannot make friends with others, you should not marry. Friendship is a prerequisite to a happy marriage.
Without friendship, marriage is a hell of a place to be in. So, learn to accept and love yourself. For until you do, you'll not be truly able to accept and love others. And, until you can accept and love others, marriage is not in your future.
So, don't get hung up on the past. Irrespective of your yesterday, it's gone. Today is a gift. Let us start. Let us start loving accepting ourselves. You got no other you, irrespective of how you try. And, even if you are going to make you better, you gotta accept what you got to work with. Right?
You can't make better what you don't accept. So, let us start from the beginning. Irrespective of your history, we are here. Here is all that matters. Your history does not determine your destiny. It's gone. It's your choice which part of it you want to keep.
Keep only that which works and empowers you. The rest? There is a reason for the waste bin. So, accept what you got and appreciate it - the good, the bad, and the ugly. They all happened for a reason. And, since it did not kill you, guess what? It is to make you stronger.
So, let us use them for what they are meant for. Learn the lessons and grow by the same. Now extend the same acceptance and love to others. Impact your world. Let them see you. The world is incomplete without you. Live!
The Saint.
