The Alpha Personality (Part Three): The Alpha Female - The Warrior.

Introduction: 

These are typically tagged, strong women. Why? I remember a lady tagging her manager accordingly. Her reason? The manager was able to effectively manage and maneuver between the requirements of her job function and the burial of a sibling. No one in the workplace could tell what was going on in her private life. She effectively switched between the two spaces. This was not a one time occurrence. Do you know anyone like this? You are most probably looking at an Alpha Female.

The Alpha Female is defined as, "A woman who has embraced her leadership ambitions. She is talented, highly motivated, and self-confident." She is an incredible leader. The Alpha trait manifest in every aspect and area of her life. It is who she is, not a job she does. In reality, there is effectively no difference between the traits of an alpha female and an alpha male. The essential qualities are the same. The main difference is in the container, and hence the background against which they are judged. 

The content is essentially the same. 

The Challenge: 

We all have masculine and feminine energy in us. The Alpha personality is highly defined by the masculine energy either in a male or female. In a male, it is kind of expected. In a female, it kind of goes against the naturally and culturally, hitherto, accustomed norm. Hence, it sticks out, and more often than not, requires an adjusting to. That is in no sense to say it is an alien archetype. It is just to say we need and have more work to do in celebrating it.

Typically, when you think of alphas the imagery it evokes is one with an imposing physical build who commands control without words. Fortunately, or unfortunately, that is not a one to one ratio as to the content of such persons. The mafias and gang archetypes come readily to mind, where the leader, surprising is often a none imposing personality, leading a pack of physically intimidating folks. That is the true picture of the alpha. It is not as much as the outward build, but the ability to herd cats.

The Making of an Alpha Female: 

The Alpha Female typically has a story behind it evolution. The masculine energy could have been inherited, but it is not without the story to set its course. So, in a sense, could be the result of both nature and nurture. Probably, more defined are the resolution of "never agains" borne from either observation or actual personal experience. Whichever, it creates a drive for leadership in this amazon. She is either running from or running to something important to her.

Obviously, the more stable Alpha female are the ones running towards, not those running from. "Running to" is, typically, motivated by faith. "Running from" is, typically, motivated by fear. These amazons are control freaks. This is both a strength and a weakness, depending on who is reigning over who. Under control, it helps them stay on top of things. Out of control, they find it difficult to trust the people working for them, which leads to their leadership demise.

A Toast to the Alpha Female: 

Join me in raising a toast to the Amazons in our midst: To their success in the various endeavors and leadership positions they find themselves. Let us celebrate and support them, wherever we find them. They are here to stay. There ain't no sweeping them under the carpet. They make us all complete.
