Until you make peace with your past, you cannot have peace in the present. Hence, no peace to push into the future. Life is simply what it is, life. It happens - positively or negatively. No qualms. It is not personal. Just the way the cookie crumbles.
You have to settle accounts with the past. That is if you want to make a success of your today and tomorrow. Until the accounts of yesterday are settled, it remains a weight on your shoulders and legs, limiting your progress and growth.
The easy way around it is to accept the truth the spilled milk cannot be gathered back. No matter how much you cry over it, it ain't coming back into the cup, at least not in its pure state. So, why cry aimlessly and fruitlessly. You might as well use your energy for better things.
In life, some things can and will never change. Some things can change and really should not change. And, some things can change and should change. Remember the Serenity Prayer? Just for those who don't, The Serenity Prayer is a prayer written by the American theologian Reinhold Niebuhr. It is commonly quoted as:
"God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, courage to change the things I can, and wisdom to know the difference."
How so apt this truly is? How relieving of unnecessary pressure will our lives be as we imbibe the basic tenets espoused in this prayer?
At every point in our lives, there will always be things we can do nothing about. It behooves us to learn from David in this wise. He cried, prayed, fasted, and was like going to kill himself for as long as there was a chance he could change the hand o destiny.
