Wisdom: You do realize we all market ourselves every day, in every environment we find ourselves. It is in every smile, or the lack thereof; every handshake, its tightness, etc. Though not expressed in words, the basic message we effuse being, “trust me.” Trust in my person, my ability, my character, my present, and my future.
Generally, our quotient in being able to do this well is guided by our Emotional and Social Quotients. We all buy products and services based on the emotional state it leaves us with, not necessarily out of a logical need. Yes, we justify it logically, but purchase and brand loyalties are basically an emotional decision. We trust it to always give us the state we seek.
And, remember what Maya Angelou rightly taught us about feeling? She said, “I've learned that people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel.” That feeling and trust of repeatability are what buys us loyalty, friendship, promotion, sales, etc. So, earn trust, earn trust, earn trust.
Always leave people better than you found them. Leave them with unforgettable experiences in the way you carry yourself; your devotion and dedication to duty; excellence, etc. Be the one who nurtures and builds. Be the one who has an understanding and a forgiving heart, one who looks for the best in people. Hug the hurt. Kiss the broken. Befriend the lost. Love the lonely. Let them be happy they met you.
Leave a place better than you found it. Be an agent of change for good. Be known for this. Jay Darzie puts it this way, “Your smile is your logo, your personality is your business card, how you leave others feeling after an experience with you becomes your trademark.”
There is a handsome reward it compensates you with, according to the Law of Compensation.
