Devotional Tea 27: Watch and Pray

Scripture: Mark 14:38 (NIV)

Watch and pray so that you will not fall into temptation. The spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak.

Meditation:
If any of you should ask me for an epitome of the Christian religion, I should say that it is in one word - prayer. Live and die without prayer, and you will pray long enough when you get to hell. (Charles Haddon Spurgeon)
We cannot go the Christian journey alone. We cannot go in our own strength. It is not about having the latest message. It is not a façade. It is truly living the kingdom life in this present sphere, causing the Father’s will to be done, while declaring His manifold wisdom. [Matthew 6:10; Ephesians 3:10]

So, when you hear of supposed ministers missing it, committing suicide and the like, you know where they missed it. They missed it in the secret place. They missed it in the place of communion with the Father. Having probably started well, they got sidetracked. They got carried away with the love of other things. They thought they could finish in their own strength. They thought they could carry the load all on their own.

How infantile and corrupted a mindset can be when the right attention is not given. The master’s words ring ever true, “I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing.” (John 15:5, NIV) Truly, apart from Him, we can do nothing. In and with Him, we can do all things.

Prayer: Lord, burn deep within me the reality and truth, “I am nothing without you.” Help me drink of you daily for my sustenance.
