Neither give place to the devil.
Mediation:
You cannot take the mild approach to the weeds in your mental garden. You have got to hate weeds enough to kill them. Weeds are not something you handle; weeds are something you devastate. (Jim Rohn)Our life will always go in the direction of our thoughts. For, as a man thinks so is he. Our mind (and life) is like a garden. It is our place to tend it. This means being careful to rid it of weeds, as we cultivate the lawn and the flowers. It means giving it the right nutrient it needs. It is our responsibility to ensure it is always in a state to produce the results we desire.
Weeds, like the downward pull of life, need no cultivation. They grow of their own accord. In the same token, failure is automatic. Working in sin is automatic. No one needs to plan to fail or work out of step. All you need do is NOTHING.
If you are going to make it in life; if you are going to succeed; if you are are going to live a holy and righteous life, then you are going to actively engage. You are going to have to work out your salvation with fear and trembling. [Philippines 2:12-13] You are going to have to perfect holiness in the fear of the Lord [2 Corinthians 7:1] You are going to have to labor to enter into His rest. [Hebrews 4:11]
