Persons of one book are shallow, conceited fellas, who are unable to see beyond their own nose. You will never live long enough to know all you need to know on your own. Let that ring severally in your ears. Life is about networking. Life is about riding on the power of many. You don’t have to rediscover that which someone else has already discovered. Simply learn from them. That will take nothing away from you. You can then you it and the spare time it affords you to learn new things. That sounds more like common sense. Right?
Beware of the person of one book. (Thomas Aquinas)I have heard some arrogant, supposed religious people say all they read is the bible. Really? Are you that shallow? No reason such persons are no better, and fall short of God’s mandate. You will NEVER fully understand the bible all on your own. You aren’t JESUS CHRIST. You don’t have all it takes to decipher and extract all you need all on your own. You’ll need several lifetimes to achieve even a tenth of all you need to know. Yes, the bible can be your overarching and foundational book, but you need the wisdom of many to get a better understanding of it.
When you come, bring the coat I left with Carpus in the city of Troas. Bring the books and for sure do not forget the writings written on sheepskin. (2 Timothy 4:13, NLV)
Reading books helps you see life from different perspectives. It helps you challenge and rightly tune your own paradigm. It widens and deepens your horizon. It makes you a true person of wisdom, breath and grit. It makes your life rich by introducing you to the world as it truly and really is. You have experiences beyond that which you can physically lay hold of. It makes your life full and whole.
If I have seen further than others, it is by standing upon the shoulders of giants. (Isaac Newton)Be a person of many books. Then, will you know what life is. Then, will you be truly living. Then, will you have truly lived. This is to your greater life.
