Beware of Familiarity

Marriage must incessantly contend with a monster that devours everything: familiarity. (Honore de Balzac)
Never become so familiar with your spouse that you take him/her for granted. Endeavour to always hold each other in high esteem. Do not replace the role of boyfriend with husband, or the role of girlfriend with wife. Rather add the role of husband to boyfriend, and the role of wife to girlfriend. Both roles are mutually compatible. They are not meant to replace one another. Rather, their place is to accentuate one another.

Don’t let the glamour of marriage take away the shine of your friendship with your spouse. You started out as friends. Stay as friends; grow together as friends, and close, on this side of eternity, as friends. Never, for one second, take each other for granted. And, the blessed joy and beauty of marriage will always be yours.
